Adopt a Cardinal

There is a project going on right now whereby you can adopt a Cardinal for whom to pray and offer your Lenten penances.

No, not those Cardinals.  Those Cardinals are evil.

The project can be found here.  The point is not to pray that your Cardinal is elected Pope, but that he will be guided by the Holy Spirit in the upcoming conclave to exercise right judgment in choosing a new Holy Father.

For me, the system chose Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki, Archbishop of Berlin.  I do not know much about him other than the fact that he is one of the youngest Cardinals in the College and that he was only elevated fairly recently, but I will be praying for him in the coming days.

God, eternal shepherd, you tend your Church in many ways and rule us with love. You have chosen your servant, Rainer Maria Cardinal Woelki, to be a shepherd of your flock. Give him a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love. By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he build your Church as a sign of salvation for the world.  Amen.

I got Ennio Antonelli, who is either a cardinal (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ennio_Antonelli) or an actor (www.imdb.com/name/nm0031272). Just kidding. Of course he is a cardinal of the ecclesiastical variety. Being as how I am not nearly as intellectual or knowledgeable about him, I love the fact that he is smiling or looking happy in just about every picture I've seen of him. Hey, God loves those of us who are stupid, so why shouldn't I have a stupid reason to like him?
